It appears the City of Lockport will keep the services of Twin City Ambulance Co., after an effort to seek new bids failed at Wednesday's Common Council meeting.
Alderman Mark S. Devine's motion to issue a new request for proposals failed to draw the necessary four votes. Only two other aldermen, R. Joseph O'Shaughnessy and Anita Mullane, voted with him. Council President David R. Wohleben and Alderman Joseph P. Oates voted no, while Alderman Richard E. Abbott was absent.
Devine, a retired assistant fire chief, has made several unsuccessful efforts to overturn the city's 2014 decision to privatize the ambulance service previously operated by the Fire Department. If the city doesn't give notice of withdrawal by July 1, Twin City's contract automatically renews for a year.
