"We found the one."
That was "American Idol" judge (and Aerosmith vocalist) Steven Tyler, following Lauren Alaina's audition for the show's 10th season. Tyler was right, as it turns out. Alaina went on to claim the the 20111 "Idol" season runner-up slot, and from that point forward, the country singer and songwriter's career has blossomed.
Earlier this year, the title tune from Alaina's sophomore effort, "Road Less Traveled" – co-written with Meghan Trainor – hit the No. 1 slot on the country charts.
The tune is a paean to notions of self-acceptance and personal health, and it has struck a chord with country listeners, leading Rolling Stone to declare the album from which the single was plucked "one of the most anticipated releases of 2017."
Fans enamored of Carrie Underwood's powerhouse vocals and highly energized approach to modern country found much to love in Alaina's similar concept– fitting, since the young singer has cited Underwood as a major influence.
Alaina's first national tour as a headliner finds her stopping by Waiting Room (334 Delaware Ave.) on May 19. Buffalo's Caitlin Koch, who has been living and working in Nashville for the past few years, comes home to handle opening duties.
Info: Lauren Alaina performs with Caitlin Koch at 8 p.m. May 19 at Waiting Room (334 Delaware Ave.). Tickets are $15-$20 (Waiting Room, Ticketfly).
