Jacques Daniel Kern Sr., of East Aurora, a retired financial services representative, died Friday under hospice care in Mercy Hospital after a long illness. He was 81.
Born in Buffalo, he attended Park School for primary grades and Nichols School for middle school. After graduating from Orchard Park High School in 1953, he enlisted in the Air Force and served for six years.
Returning from service, Mr. Kern earned an associate’s degree in accounting from Bryant & Stratton Business Institute. He joined John Hancock Financial Services in Buffalo as a marketing representative in 1966. He retired from John Hancock in 1992.
Mr. Kern was a coach for youth baseball teams and was a board member for Little Loop Football. He also bowled on several teams and played cards in a senior citizens duplicate bridge group.
Survivors include his wife, the former Judith A. Henry; two sons, Jacques D. Jr. and Marshall E.; a brother, Jean Georges Jr.; and six grandchildren.
A memorial service was held at 5 p.m. Tuesday, May 16 in Baker Memorial United Methodist Church, 345 Main St. at Center Street, East Aurora.
