With the National Premier Soccer League season kicking off at home May 20 for FC Buffalo, the Wolves will continue their preparation with a scrimmage against a collection of Buffalo & District Soccer League players at 8 p.m. May 15 at Grand Island High School.
Aside from a friendly against Empire Development Academy in Rochester last month, Monday's match marks the first time that many of FC Buffalo's players have donned the kit, as several arrived in town late last week or this weekend.
FC Buffalo coaches Frank Butcher, Casey Derkacz and John Grabowski all play in the BDSL, so reaching out to connections from the local Sunday men's league made for an easy route to pulling together a competitive match.
The Wolves will have the bulk of their first team to trot out, excluding Kieran Toland, who will miss much of the summer campaign to injury, as well as Josh Beshaw, Julien Dragomir, Jordan Sinclair and recent signing Akean Shackleford. Queenston goalkeeper and second vice president of the BDSL John Netter was in charge with assembling the roster, which is as follows:
Goalkeeper: Netter (Queenston)
Defense: Ian Brown (Celtic United), Matt Waddington (Raiders), Graham Harris (Sharpshooters), Eric Albrecht (Queenston), Greg Hoffman (Queenston), Dylan Duncan (Queenston, questionable)
Midfield: Cody Rouse (Sharpshooters), Brendan Lawler (Sharpshooters), Brandon Loncar (Sharpshooters), J.J. Hughes (Clarence), Joe Farrell (Queenston), Bryce Schiltz (East Aurora, FCB Academy), Jackson Retzer (Williamsville Willies, FCB Academy)
Forwards: Justin Sims (Queenston), Garrett Robinson (Grand Island FC, FCB Academy)
The match will be a regulation 90 minutes and will be refereed. It's free to attend.
