Brocton residents advised to boil water after leak

Chautauqua County health officials were advising residents in Brocton to boil their water until further notice.

Officials said a major water leak including all of Portland except for the Van Buren Point area resulted in water being shut off for repairs.

"When service is restored all water customers must boil their water until further notice," health officials stated in a notice to the New York Alert system.

"Water for drinking, cooking, brushing teeth and making coffee or ice must be brought to a rolling boil for one minute then cooled prior to use," the notice stated. "Do not drink the water without boiling first or use bottled water until you are notified that the water is safe to drink."

Officials also advised customers not to call 911 unless there's an actual emergency.
