Rain Saturday night in Allentown, Pa., postponed the Buffalo Bisons’ game against the Lehigh Valley IronPigs and the home team’s quest for a franchise record eighth straight victory.
The game will be made up today as part of a doubleheader starting at 12:35 (Radio 1520).
The IronPigs waited more than an hour after the scheduled first pitch to call the game off because they big crowd sitting in the rain waiting for the start on the popular Star Wars promotion night.
Lehigh Valley (21-13) won the first two game of the series between the top two teams in the International league’s North Division standing. The IronPigs took over the top spot with a 10-7 win over the Herd on Thursday night. Buffalo (18-14) held a slim lead over Lehigh Valley by percentage points before that outcome. The IronPigs expanded their lead to two games with a 5-4 win in 12 innings on Friday, winning on a walk-off homer by Dylan Cozens, a 6-6, 235-pound slugger who hit 40 home runs for Reading in the Eastern League in 2016.
Rochester (17-14) is only a half-game behind the Bisons in the standings after a 3-1 win at Pawtucket on Saturday afternoon.
Right-hander Matt Latos (0-0, 0.90) is expected to start today’s opener for Buffalo against 22-year-old right-hander Thomas Eshelman, who shut out Rochester in his Triple-A debut on Monday. Eshelman pitched in college at Cal State-Fullerton.
The second game starters are expected to be Jarrett Grube (2-2, 4.94) for the Herd against Ben Lively (3-1, 2.79) of the home team Lively was an 18-game in combined appearances for Lehigh Valley and Reading last season.
The Bisons will return home on Monday to open a series with the Syracuse Chiefs followed by the Pawtucket Red Sox.
