WNY Flash reboots with opening games this weekend

It’s a brand new season, and a brand new beginning for the Western New York Flash.

The team will open its first season in United Women’s Soccer on Saturday night with a busy weekend in New York. The Flash will play the Long Island Rough Riders on Saturday night and the New York Surf on Sunday afternoon in a pair of road games.

The team won the National Women’s Soccer League title last year, but the franchise was sold to a North Carolina group in the offseason. The Flash then entered United Women’s Soccer. Such local players as Maddie Pezzino (Grand Island), Sydney Cerza (Clarence) and Alana Rossi (Canisius College) are on the roter.

The team will open its home season next Saturday at 5 p.m. against the Surf in All-High Stadium.
