Niagara Falls man who survived cocaine coma is indicted

A Niagara Falls man who swallowed a substantial amount of cocaine and ended up in a coma has been indicted on a felony drug charge.

Regis M. Cox, 23, of Wilcox Avenue, pleaded not guilty Friday in Niagara County Court.

Cox swallowed the cocaine after his vehicle was pulled over by police Sept. 24, Assistant District Attorney Doreen M. Hoffmann said. Cox was in a coma for about a month, but he appeared well in court, where Judge Matthew M. Murphy III set bail at $10,000.

Cox was charged with failure to signal a turn and overly tinted windows as well as fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.
