Niagara County meth maker pleads guilty

A man who was caught with more than 2 ounces of methamphetamine oil last year in a Town of Lockport mobile home faces up to nine years in prison after pleading guilty Friday in Niagara County Court.

Kevin L. Mitchell, 29, of Hartland Road, Hartland, was arrested June 3 on Rapids Road along with Diamond Harper, 22. Assistant District Attorney John P. Granchelli said Harper previously pleaded guilty to a felony and was placed in a court-supervised drug treatment program.

But Mitchell was arrested a second time on meth charges after a Nov. 23 raid on a mobile home on Ridge Road in Newfane, where he was then living. In a plea deal, he pleaded guilty to third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance for the Lockport case, while the Newfane case will be dismissed.

County Judge Matthew J. Murphy III will sentence Mitchell July 21.
