Letter: Stop using your phone when behind the wheel

Stop using your phone when behind the wheel

The other day my wife and I were out running errands. When I started to pass a car, my wife looked over and noticed the driver was not only texting while driving but also wearing headphones. We got to a traffic light and when it turned green, he proceeded with no hands on the wheel because he was still texting!

The best one, I think, is when you pull up behind someone at a red light and he’s texting away. When the light turns green, he doesn’t move because he is so engrossed with his phone. If you blow your horn, he gives you an obscene gesture telling you it’s your fault and not his.

My opinion about all this is when you are caught and go to court, not only should you have to pay your fine and receive points on your license, you should also be told that you need to get an interlock device for your phone to disable it. Now I know that such a device is not available, but wouldn’t it be nice if it were?

Come on, people. Wake up before it’s too late. Put down the phone. Nothing is that important that it can’t wait until you reach your destination. If it can’t, then pull over.
