Five streets in southwest Cheektowaga will receive new sidewalks thanks to a community development block grant designed to improve the quality of life for low-to-moderate income areas.
The town will replace 52,900 square feet of sidewalk on Griswold, Pleasant and Shanley streets and on Meadowbrook and Willowlawn parkways, said Supervisor Diane Benczkowski. The cost is estimated at $320,000.
"Replacing these sidewalks not only gives residents a safer avenue for walking, but will also add aesthetic value to the neighborhood," Benczkowski said.
The area is bound by Clinton Street to the south, the Buffalo city line to the west, the NYS Thruway to the north and North and Meadowbrook parkways to the east.
The project is expected to begin May 15 and take at least one month to complete, said Benczkowski. Construction will be completed by contractor Scott Lawn Yard. Residents will be notified when work is scheduled in front of their properties.
