New AutoZone store opens on Sheridan Drive in Amherst

AutoZone has opened its newest store in the area on Sheridan Drive in Amherst.

The Memphis, Tenn.-based auto parts retailer opened the store at 3309 Sheridan Drive, east of Bailey Avenue and across from the Walmart Supercenter, a few weeks ago. AutoZone said its stores are open seven days a week and typically employ eight to 10 full- and part-time workers.

Strip plaza owner Arista Development received permission last year from the Amherst Planning Board to tear down the western portion of the building that formerly housed Markheim Pets in order to construct a freestanding 6,800-square-foot space for AutoZone. Cushman & Wakefield Pyramid Brokerage brokered the deal.

The new building is 10 feet away from the rest of the facility, which was built in 1962 and sits on 1.5 acres. Plans called for adding parking spaces and landscaping to a site that previously was almost entirely paved.

This is the 23rd AutoZone location in Western New York, according to the retailer's website.
