The third annual Boys-to-Men Youth Empowerment Conference will take place from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday at East Community High School, 820 Northampton St.
Boys will paired with an adult mentor for a day of workshops, a panel discussion, lunch, entertainment and a “Rites of Passage Ceremony” in which they will learn about the power of the necktie and “choosing the necktie as their weapon of choice." The goal is to provide positive influences from caring adult males and to teach young men what they need to know to be successful.
Each mentor is asked to supply a new dress shirt and tie, which will be collected and then distributed to the boys at the conference. Men interested in being mentors for the day should call 818-7073 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
The program is sponsored by Helping Families and Children of America and the Buffalo Public Schools.
