Canisius plays for MAAC women's lacrosse title on Sunday

Canisius College’s women’s lacrosse team is again only a win away from the NCAA Tournament. That’s nothing new for the Golden Griffins, who have done it for seven straight years.

Canisius will try to take that last step on Sunday when it plays Fairfield at the Demske Sports Complex. Starting time is scheduled for noon.

Junior Erica Evans has a chance to add to a great season. She already has 97 points, which is the Metro Atlantic Conference record. Evans, the 2017 MAAC Midfielder of the year, has a chance to reach 100.

Evans had four goals and two assists in Canisius’ win over Niagara in the semifinal round of the playoffs on Friday night.

“We got off to a tremendous start, and played a strong all-around game from start to finish,” coach Scott Teeter said about that win, which was the 11th straight by the Griffins.
