Homeroom Announcements: Friday's big games & more

Get yourself ready for today's #PrepTalkLive action with everything you need to know about the day ahead in high school sports.

What to watch for Friday

1. Softball - Orchard Park at Lancaster, 5 p.m.

No. 1 vs. No. 2, the sequel. Top-ranked Lancaster (11-0, 6-0) took round one over Orchard Park (9-1, 7-1) on Wednesday, 4-1.

Reigning Prep Talk Softball Player of the Year Kara Paradowski had a big day offensively for the Legends driving in two runs and scoring the other two herself. The Canisius College commit scored the first run of the game in the third inning and drove in the final two in the sixth inning to extend a 2-1 lead.

The Quakers and their strong trio of Division I commits Madison Stewart, Lilly Wosniak and Kayla Raymond look to even the season series today. The defending Class AA champs lost the first meeting last season, 5-0, before rebounding with a 12-5 win two weeks later.

2. Baseball - Silver Creek at Fredonia (2), 4 p.m.

A CCAA West I doubleheader between No. 6 small school Silver Creek (10-2, 6-0) and No. 8 small school Fredonia (8-3, 6-1) tops Friday's baseball schedule.

Two wins for the Black Knights would be huge in the race for the division crown. They won a 5-3 game on Wednesday against Maple Grove, which handed Fredonia its only league loss to date. Silver Creek's losses have come against North Collins and Frewsburg, and its top wins have been against Cleveland Hill and Southwestern.

The Hillbillies, a state finalist in 2016, swept the season series against No. 10 small school Southwestern on Wednesday with a huge 24-1 win. Vince Gullo had three hits, including a home run, and four RBIs. Reid Tarnowski had four hits and four RBIs. Ryan Mroczka added five RBIs, and two of his three hits were doubles.

3. Softball - Roy-Hart at Newfane, 4:45 p.m.

No. 8 small school Roy-Hart (9-2, 7-1) heads to honorable mention small school Newfane (5-2, 5-1) for a game between one-loss Niagara-Orleans League squads.

The Rams won the first meeting, 4-2, exactly a week ago. Pitcher Samantha Choate scattered five hits in a complete game of work. Maddy Glena led the way offensively with three hits. Roy-Hart's league loss came to No. 3 Akron, 6-5, on April 24.

The Panthers rebounded from the loss last Friday with an 8-7 win at Medina on Wednesday. Alexa Littman went 3-4 at the plate with a pair of doubles and three RBIs. Cassidy Geise struck out eight batters and earned the win.

4. Boys lacrosse - Eden at Akron, 5 p.m.

Akron (9-1, 8-0) and Eden (10-1, 6-1) battle it out for the top spot in Class D today.

The Tigers won the first matchup, 14-8, at Eden on April 21. Owen Hill and Michael Miller each went for four goals that day. Hill, a junior, leads the team in points with 57 (24 goals, 33 assists). Classmate Nelson Logan is next with 50 (25 goals, 25 assists).

The Raiders, who have the most overall wins in the area, responded to their only loss with five straight wins. The closest game was an 11-8 win over Grand Island. All the rest have been by at least 13 goals.
