Niagara County Sheriff warns of counterfeit $50 and $100 bills

Several counterfeit bills  recently have been passed to several businesses in the Lockport and Newfane areas, according to the Niagara County Sheriff.

Fake $50 and $100 bills have shown up with Asian writing printed on both the front and back of the bills, according to Sheriff James R. Voutour. The people responsible for distributing the bogus bills are believed to have purchased them online.

The Sheriff's Office is investigating several fraudulent attempts to pass of the bills as legitimate currency, and is asking for the public's cooperation.
