May 5 – Lewiston Smelt Festival, Lewiston Landing starting at 5 p.m. Niagara River Anglers will be cooking up smelt. Free to attend.

May 5 – Opening day of the Lake Ontario Counties (LOC) Trout and Salmon Derby. For a list of weigh stations and registration points visit www.loc.org.

May 6 – Opening day, walleye, Northern pike, pickerel and inland tiger musky seasons.

May 6 – 2017 Spring Border War between WNY Bassmasters and St. Catharines Bassmasters out of Safe Harbor Marina, Buffalo. Two-person teams; best two fish. Fishing will be from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. $100 per team. Artificial baits only. For more information contact Keith Pease at 818-7350.

May 20 – The Lake Erie Chapter of Fly Fishers International will hold its 7th Annual Ray's Kids Day (a fun filled day of fly fishing for youngsters 9-15).
