Buffalo firefighters rescue dog from house fire, give it oxygen at scene

Buffalo firefighters rescued a dog from a house fire just outside downtown Tuesday night.

The fire started on the first floor and firefighters were able to contain it to that floor, the Alarm Office said. The dog was given oxygen at the scene.

The Red Cross was called to help four adults after a blaze at 163 Bennett St., south of Broadway and just east of Michigan Avenue. The fire was reported at 6:50 p.m., according to the Buffalo Fire Department Alarm Office.

Damage to the home was estimated at $80,000. The cause is under investigation.

In January 2016, the Fire Department received a donation of oxygen masks for pets.
