4 escape Shawnee Road house fire

WHEATFIELD - Four people escaped a house fire on Shawnee Road early Monday morning, according to the Niagara County Sheriff's Office.

A neighbor called 911 to report a chimney fire at 7120 Shawnee Road just before 4 a.m.. The fire spread through the roof and onto the south side of the home, the Sheriff's Office said.

Volunteer firefighters from Adams and Shawnee fire companies put out the blaze. A damage estimate was not immediately available.

Shawnee was closed for several hours between Hill and Timberlink roads.

Firefighters at the scene deemed the blaze "under control" as of 6:21 a.m., according radio transmissions. The cause of the fire is under investigation. No injuries were reported.
