Robert N. Anderson, the former Amherst highway superintendent, has been named chairman of the Erie County Water Authority.
He was unanimously supported for the position during the water authority's annual organizational meeting Friday, Commissioners are paid $22,500 a year.
Anderson retired as highway superintendent from the Town of Amherst in 2014. He was appointed to the ECWA board the following year and served as treasurer prior to Friday's vote.
Anderson replaces Earl L. Jann Jr. as chairman. Jann, a Marilla town supervisor, chose not to remain on the board because he's seeking the position of executive director of the water authority. Karl J. Simmeth Jr., a former Town of Boston councilman was appointed by the Erie County Legislature to fill the empty seat on the three-member board.
Anderson, Simmeth and Jann are all Republicans, appointed by the Republican-controlled County Legislature.
