MAKOWSKI, Jean E. (Turner)

MAKOWSKI - Jean E. (nee Turner) Age 93, died peacefully on April 28, 2017, beloved wife of Francis J. "Frank" who died in 1991; cherished mother of Margaret (late Dr. Lewis J. Greenky) Makowski-Greenky, Patricia A. Makowski and Edith M. (Kenneth J.) Belter; sister of the late June M. (late Robert L.) Morhart, Sr. Genevieve (Edith) Turner, SSJ of Rochester, NY, the late John E. (Ruth) Turner of Hamburg, NY and Paul C. (Patricia) Turner, Sr. of Tonawanda, NY; also survived by three generations of nieces and nephews. Jean graduated from South Park High School in 1943 and during her late teens worked at Postal Telegraph-Western Union where she met her future husband. They were married on June 23, 1945. She enlisted in the US Navy (WAVES) May of 1944 and was honorably discharged August 1945. She earned a certificate in Cosmetology as well as one from Warzecha Dressmaking School in dressmaking and pattern making. Upon her youngest daughter starting school, she returned to working outside the home at Acme Builders Supply as a receptionist until the early 1960's at which time she started working in the Personnel Department at Cornell Aeronautical Labs, retiring in 1994. Jean's husband and family were always her first priority. She enjoyed several hobbies including photography, knitting, sewing, gardening, reading and horseback riding, which she began as a teenager and continued well into her 70's. Jean will be lovingly remembered for her kindness to others, unselfish heart, ready smile and sparkling blue eyes. Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Flowers gratefully declined. If so desired, memorials may be made in Jean's name to Hospice Buffalo, Inc., 225 Como Park Blvd., Cheektowaga, NY 14227 or a charity of your choice.
