Shelter-in-place order lifted in Ridgeway after search for man armed with gun

RIDGEWAY - Orleans County Sheriff's deputies and State Police searched Saturday for a man believed armed with as many as three handguns who was seen running into the woods following a domestic confrontation.

A shelter-in -place order was issued by Orleans County officials just after 1 p.m., when the man was spotted near North Gravel and Ridge roads, after a physical domestic incident in a nearby home, authorities said. Shortly before 6 p.m., the order was lifted when authorities determined after an extensive search that the man was no longer in  the area.

The subject of the search was described as a Hispanic man, about 30 years-old, wearing a gray T-shirt, shorts and sneakers. All residents in the area of Ridge, Slade, Horan and North Gravel roads were urged to remain in their homes, with doors and windows locked.

Anyone who sees the man is asked to call 911 and not attempt to approach him, authorities said.
