Lakeshore flood warning issued for Niagara and Orleans counties

The National Weather Service has issued a lakeshore flood warning for Lake Ontario for late this evening until late Sunday.

This is an upgrade from the flood watch previously in effect.

High lake levels and moderate to strong northeast winds are expected to result in increased flooding and shoreline erosion in Niagara, Orleans and western Monroe counties, the weather service said.

Flood-prone areas and bays and inlets are expected to bear the brunt of the erosion, the service said.

A lakeshore flood warning means  lakeshore flooding is occurring, is imminent or expected to occur. People in the warning area should take immediate action to protect life and property.
