Bills ticket prices to fluctuate based on demand

Ticket prices for Buffalo Bills home games would fluctuate based on demand, under a new pricing model announced by the team on Friday.

Prices for individual game tickets at New Era Field will be categorized into five tiers – platinum, gold, silver, bronze and preseason – based on the Bills' opponent and time of the year.

As football fans purchase tickets for individual games, the prices could go up or down to reflect demand.

Ticket prices may decrease below the initial box office price, but will never fall below season ticket prices, the team said in a press release.

The move to “dynamic pricing” – which has already been used by some teams in professional baseball, basketball, soccer and hockey – marks a departure from the long-standing model of setting fixed ticket prices before the season.

The Buffalo Sabres moved to this pricing model last year.

Individual game pricing for the 2017 Bills season will include:

  • One platinum game: That's the home opener against the New York Jets on Sept. 10. Initial box office prices range from $86 in 300-level seats to $152 for 100-level seats.
  • Three gold games: Those games are on Sept. 24 vs. the Denver Broncos; Oct. 29 vs. the Oakland Raiders; and Dec. 3 vs. the New England Patriots. Initial prices range from $80 in 300-level seats to $140 for 100-level seats.
  • Two silver games: Those are on Oct. 22 vs. the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Nov. 12 vs. the New Orleans Saints. Initial box office prices range from $66 for 300-level seats to $118 for 100-level seats.
  • Two bronze games: Those two games are Dec. 10 vs. the Indianapolis Colts and Dec. 17 vs. the Miami Dolphins. Initial prices range from $54 for 300-level seats to $98 for 100-level seats.
  • Two preseason games: Those are on Aug. 10 vs. the Minnesota Vikings and Aug. 31 vs. the Detroit Lions. Initial prices range from $44 for 300-level seats to $80 for 300-level seats.
