Man charged with holding up Tonawanda McDonald's with baseball bat

An alert off-duty Town of Tonawanda Police officer quickly collared a Lackawanna teen who allegedly used a baseball bat to rob a Delaware Avenue McDonald's late Wednesday, police in the town reported.

Tyler Williamson, 19, is accused of threatening a clerk at the 3354 Delaware Ave. restaurant at Sheridan Drive with a baseball bat.

Williamson demanded cash during the robbery, which occurred about 9 p.m.

After getting the money, Williamson smashed a glass door walking out of the restaurant, Town of Tonawanda Police reported.

That's when Officer Christopher Ryan, who was off-duty at the time, heard the breaking glass and watched Williamson flee the scene.

Ryan tracked Williamson down and apprehended him about two blocks away.

Williamson was charged with robbery, menacing, criminal mischief and weapons possession.

He was taken into custody and held in Town of Tonawanda jail pending arraignment.
