Heat sets a new April 27 record; thunderstorms en route

The temperature in Buffalo set a new daily record at 1:30 p.m. today when the mercury reached 85 degrees, the National Weather Service reported.

It's the first 80 degree reading in Buffalo in April since it reached 82 degrees on April 18, 2013, and is the ninth-warmest April day ever in Buffalo.

But, the blast of summer won't stick around long.

A sharp cold front is forecast to sweep through the Buffalo Niagara region around dinnertime.

It could bring high winds and the possibility of heavy thunderstorms.

The best chance for rain starts about 6 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.

Showers and thunderstorms are likely to last into the early evening, forecasters said.

The previous record high for this date was 84 degrees, set in 1984.
