Spring signing season continues with Canisius set to host ceremony

The spring portion of area scholastic athletes making college commitments continues.

In addition to Williamsville South holding a signing ceremony for field hockey star and Ball State-commit Abby Ferenczy in the school library at 2 p.m. Thursday, Canisius High School will hold its own event for 12 athletes across eight sports at 10 a.m. Thursday.

Track athlete Alex Buczynski is heading to Division I Albany, while golfer Patrick Weir is heading to Canisius College. Swimmer Ken Bianchi is going to Division II LeMoyne. Jack Wiles and Doar Doar will play rugby at St. Bonaventure.

Baseball players Will Lawrence (Niagara County Community College), Steven Mooney (Clark University), football players RaeQwon Greer (Alfred) and Jeremiah Young (Alfred), lacrosse player Clayton Karam (John Carroll), squash player Matt Durkarm (Franklin and Marshall) and basketball player Jake Zeis (Penn State-Behrend) are the others who will take part in the ceremony.

Williamsville East held one of its own ceremony's Wednesday for five signing letters of intent with Division I or II schools. They were track and field's Alanna Krammer (University at Buffalo), volleyball's Alexis Novak (Florida Southern), softball's Jessica Weaver (Fairmont) and field hockey's Leah Rogers (Mercyhurst) and Hayley Skidmore (Mercyhurst).
