M&T Bank is trimming branches in territory that Hudson City Bank used to serve.
By the end of July, M&T plans to close six branches in Suffolk County, as well as five former Hudson City branches in New Jersey, said Chet Bridger, a bank spokesman.
M&T already had four M&T branches in Suffolk County, which is on Long Island, before it picked up 12 Hudson City branches in the county, when its deal for Hudson City was completed in 2015. The branches were converted to M&T's branding in February 2016.
"After having a year of experience serving our customers in Suffolk County and looking at the branch and ATM traffic patterns, we’ve determined 10 retail branches will be a good network size to serve M&T’s traditional banking model in the county," Bridger said in a statement.
M&T last year began offering ATM access at Speedway convenience stores, 16 of which are on Long Island.
