Two people caught shoplifting became belligerent after their arrests, Orchard Park Police reported.
Shawn Brill, 26, of Colden, and Casey Mann, 34, of Buffalo, were identified as shoplifters by security officers and surveillance video at the Kohl's department store in Quaker Crossing Plaza, police said. They were charged with petit larceny and possession of stolen property after taking $240 worth of jewelry and clothing from the store, police said.
Mann was additionally charged with five counts of criminal possession of controlled substance after police found in her possession five different kinds of prescription pills for which she had no prescription, according to authorities.
Both became belligerent after they were taken to the Orchard Park Police Department station, according to police. Mann fought with an officer and then used the shirt she was wearing to plug the toilet in the cell, according to authorities.
Police said that caused the toilet to overflow and resulted in damage to the ceiling one floor below. Mann was additionally charged with criminal mischief, authorities said.
Police said Brill also plugged a toilet in a cell, causing it to overflow. He also was charged with obstructing governmental administration, authorities said.
Brill was transferred to the Erie County Holding Center, while Mann was transported to Erie County Medical Center, where she was treated for an injured hand, police said.
