NFL Draft position grades: Linebackers

[2017 Draft Rankings: WR | QB | RBTE | OL | CB | S | LB | DT | Edge]

LINEBACKERS

Class grade: B-. The No. 1 job requirement in today’s NFL for linebackers is speed. Simply put, they have to be able to run sideline to sideline. A good indication is to look at the number of players at the combine who can run the 40 in 4.7 seconds or less. This class has players who can do that, but injury concerns and character question marks to some of the top prospects hurt the overall grade. That’s true of Foster, who might get passed by Reddick as the top linebacker selected. Players here fit in either 4-3 defenses or at inside linebacker in 3-4 schemes.
