Niagara Falls man convicted on weapons charges

LOCKPORT – A Niagara County Court jury convicted a Niagara Falls man Friday on three counts of possessing high-capacity ammunition magazines, which were found in his car during a traffic stop.

Simeon D. Mokhiber, 41, of Willow Avenue, was arrested April 18, 2016, in North Tonawanda, where police said they found the Glock magazines after pulling him over for driving while intoxicated and speeding.

The jury acquitted Mokhiber on the DWI charge, defense attorney James M. Ostrowski said. But the weapons charges each carry a potential seven-year prison sentence when Mokhiber returns before Judge Matthew J. Murphy III in about two months.
