A Town of Tonawanda man crashed his pickup truck into a pole on Young Street in the City of Tonawanda and then fled on foot early Saturday morning, police reported.
Officers caught the man a short time later in a backyard off Fremont Street, bleeding from the face and neck. He struggled with officers and was handcuffed so that EMS could treat his injuries, police said.
En route to the hospital, the injured man told officers “I drank a lot of Jack and Cokes,” according to Captain Fredric Foels.
David J. Fuhrman, 28, of Parker Boulevard was charged with DWI, aggravated unlicensed operation, leaving the scene of an accident, criminal mischief, resisting arrest and three traffic charges including imprudent speed.
Fuhrman was admitted to Erie County Medical Center for his injuries.
Police said the crash occurred about 2:30 a.m. and that pole knocked over was in front of 190 Young St. The truck left skid marks 200 feet long on the pavement before hitting the pole, police reported.
