Douglas Anderson, 34, was arrested by Buffalo police about 12:30 a.m. Saturday shortly after investigators said he injured a man and woman during an altercation in a house in the first block of Butler Avenue.
Anderson, of Clinton Street, was arrested after allegedly striking the female victim on the head with an iron and repeatedly punching the male victim as two young children witnessed the incident. The man was treated at the scene but the woman was taken to the Erie County Medical Center for treatment.
Anderson was charged with felony counts of second-degree assault and second-degree criminal mischief and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon (the iron), third-degree assault, second-degree harassment and endangering the welfare of two children.
He was also charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and second-degree promoting prison contraband. When he was being booked a plastic bag of alleged cocaine was found in his pants pocket, police said. He remained in custody at the Erie County Holding Center Saturday night.
