What to watch for Friday
1. Softball - Orchard Park at Lancaster, 5 p.m. (POSTPONED)
Lancaster (3-0, 3-0) and Orchard Park (1-0, 1-0) both look to stay unbeaten in this ECIC I matchup.
The Quakers, who've won Class AA the past two seasons, opened this season with a huge 25-0 triumph at Jamestown on Tuesday. Alex Sheehy went 4-6 at the plate with four runs scored, while Peyton Hillis also went 4-6 with two doubles.
The Legends have topped league foes Williamsville North and West Seneca West twice by a combined score of 31-10. Jenna Patterson threw a complete game four-hitter with eight strikeouts in a 6-0 shutout of West on Tuesday. Kara Paradowski went 3-4 with two RBIs and three runs.
2. Baseball - Lancaster at Orchard Park, 5 p.m. (POSTPONED)
Class AA contenders Lancaster (1-1, 0-1) and Orchard Park (2-0, 1-0) clash in an ECIC I matchup on Friday. The teams split their meetings in the regular season last year.
The Legends have had games against Frontier and Williamsville North rained out the past two days. Lancaster lost its opener to the Spartans on April 5, 3-2, and picked up a win against Maury of Virginia last week in Florida, 7-6.
The Quakers have dominating wins over Gowanda and Jamestown to start the season. Three of Cole Hollins' four hits have gone for extra bases (two doubles, triple). The senior has seven RBIs through two games.
3. Boys lacrosse - Akron at Eden, 5 p.m.
Eden (5-0) and Akron (4-1) battle for the top spot in Class D.
The Tigers had an unexpected day off yesterday when their game against Medina, another top team in Class D, was cancelled. They beat Gowanda on Wednesday, 19-10 behind five goals and two assists from returning All-Western New Yorker Owen Hill. Keenan Minham added three goals and five assists.
The Raiders beat the Mustangs on Tuesday, 13-7, and also have league wins over Salamanca and Gowanda. Nonleague wins include Iroquois and West Seneca East. Eden lost 16-6 and 12-11 in overtime to Akron last season.
4. Girls lacrosse - Hamburg at Niagara Wheatfield, 5 p.m.
Niagara Wheatfield (2-1, 1-0) hosts Class B foe Hamburg (1-3, 0-0) in the top girls lacrosse game on the schedule.
The Falcons picked up their first league win of the year with a 19-4 win at Williamsville North on Wednesday. Tiffany Cristofinelli led the way with five goals, while Marissa Markott and Jazlyn Kirkland each added three. Wheatfield's loss came at West Seneca East, 8-7, which also beat Hamburg, 11-8.
The Bulldogs have lost three in a row after opening with a win against Eden. The most recent game for Hamburg, the five-time defending Class B champ, was a 14-13 loss to five-time defending Class A champ Lancaster. Bella Leitteri and Addy Wright were both All-ECIC I second team selections last year.
