Motorcycle safety is a two-way street
Once again, the warm weather is here and we are starting to see the beautiful classic cars, Harley Davidsons and the dreaded “crotch rocket” motorcycles coming out of winter storage. Also, the signs asking motorists to watch out for the motorcycles.
Well, how about if we put out signs asking the motorcyclists to watch out for the other motor vehicles on the road? Just because some people own a motorcycle (I’m not saying everyone) they think they own the road and can speed, weave in and out of traffic and break all the laws on the books.
Well, think again. There are other people out there besides you. If you want to race and do wheelies, then go to a race track. Stay off the public streets. We will all be better off. There have been too many accidents over the years involving cars, trucks and motorcycles resulting in severe injuries or even death.
These “rocket” motorcycles are built to race. NASCAR puts restrictor plates on the engines of its cars when they race at the larger tracks to keep their speed down. Why can’t the manufacturers do something like that on these “rockets” for regular street use?
Let’s all be safe. Pay attention to the rules of the road and watch out for each other. Have a wonderful, safe summer.
