Knowledgeable hockey folks have made plenty of assertions Jack Eichel is an entitled young superstar.
The mother of all reports surfaced Wednesday, with WGR 550's Paul Hamilton writing Eichel would not sign a contract extension with the Buffalo Sabres as long as Dan Bylsma remained coach.
The controversial report drew immediate rebukes from Eichel's agent and led to Eichel speaking with The Buffalo News beat writer John Vogl for an exclusive Q&A.
But the reported leverage play by a 20-year-old turned into a fascinating look at the star/coach dynamic and how natural it must feel for a young phenom to feel he has the control when the organization gutted itself and abandoned competitiveness to draft you.
Eichel more important than the coach is one thing. In many ways I wouldn't blame him if he felt bigger than the organization.
Buffalo News senior columnist Jerry Sullivan visited "The Tim Graham Show" on Sports Radio 1270 The Fan to talk about this blockbuster Sabres development with co-host Joe Licata and ESPN.com's Mike Rodak.
