What to watch for Wednesday

1. Girls lacrosse - Lake Shore at Amherst, 5:30 p.m.

Lake Shore (2-0, 0-0) visits Class C rival Amherst (2-1, 1-0) in one of the top games on Wednesday's schedule.

This is the first of four straight league games for Eagles in the span of the next eight days. Their wins include away games at Villa Maria Academy (Pa.), 20-1, and V-Penn Yan, 13-11. Shayla Scanlan (8 goals, 4 assists), Ivy Santana (9 goals, 2 assists) and Jalyn Jimerson (5 goals, 5 assists) lead the team in points.

The Tigers have wins over Clarence and Sweet Home and a loss against Frontier. Seniors Camryn Sullivan (10 goals, 3 assists) and Hannah Smith (7 goals, 3 assists) lead the team in points. Amherst lost to Lake Shore all three times last year, including 14-9 in the Class C championship.

2. Baseball - Orchard Park at Hamburg, 5 p.m. (POSTPONED)

ECIC I foes Orchard Park (2-0, 1-0) and Hamburg (2-2, 1-0) square off in the top baseball game of the day.

The Quakers stared their season strong with routs of Gowanda and Jamestown. Senior Cole Hollins already has seven RBIs in two games, and three of his four hits have gone for extra bases (two doubles, triples). Classmate Jordan Lewis is 7-10 at the plate with a double and three RBIs.

The Bulldogs lost a nonleague game to Fredonia last week but rebounded with a 12-8 league win against West Seneca West on Monday. Owen Gonter and Adam Plewik both went 3-4 at the plate. Gonter had a pair of doubles and three RBIs, while Plewik had a double. Dylan Crowley pitched six innings of relief to pick up the win.

3. Softball - Frontier at Lancaster, 5 p.m. (POSTPONED)

Lancaster (3-0, 3-0) and Frontier (1-1, 1-1) are both coming off short rest having played games yesterday.

The Falcons are coming off a 9-6 win against Hamburg. Olivia Weller went 2-3 at the plate with a double and 3 RBIs. Cami Duggan and Shelby Simmeth each went 3-4 with a double. Simmeth added an RBI as well.

The Legends shut out West Seneca West yesterday, 6-0, behind a complete game four-hitter with eight strikeouts from Jenna Patterson. Kara Paradowski went 3-4 with two RBIs and scored three runs.

4. Boys lacrosse - Gowanda at Akron, 5:30 p.m.

Defending Class C champ Akron (1-1, 1-0) hosts Gowanda (1-2, 1-2) in a rematch of last year's sectional final. Both teams dropped down to the newly-formed Class D this season.

The Tigers opened the season on March 29 with a 24-0 win over Wilson and lost the following day to Canisius, 12-5. The Panthers lost their first two games to league foes Medina and Eden. Their lone win is also against Wilson, 11-3.
