Woodcock Brothers Brewery (638 Lake St., Wilson) has released a special draft-only version of its XPA 10.0 (Experimental Pale Ale). This version tames back some of the bitterness to make it even more drinkable.
Fans can follow @WoodcockBrewery on Twitter for updates of when and where the beer will be tapped. The brewery also has tapped its traditional Maibock called Goat Island Maibock. The 7 percent ABV German lager is designed to have a fresh balance of malt and hops, and a slightly noticeable alcohol twang. Call 333-4000.
Big Ditch Brewing Company (55 E. Huron St.) is releasing the first beer in its new Lock IPA series, in 16-ounce four-packs of cans, on April 22. The first beer in the series, called Packet IPA (named after the boats that transported early passengers on the Erie Canal), is made with Galaxy, Mosaic and Pacific Jade hops (7.2 percent ABV).
About 150 cases were produced, and will be sold for $14.99 per four-pack. There is a one case limit per customer. There will also be a limited amount of the beer on draft. Big Ditch plans to do from three to five of these IPA releases in 2017, and the next one is planned for June. Call 854-5050.
Resurgence Brewing Company (1250 Niagara St.) will release its 8.4 percent ABV double IPA, Head in the Clouds, on April 20. The beer is packed with hops to present a huge aroma of white peach, orange, and pineapple accompanied by a smooth, soft body with a clean finish. This super limited release will only be about 20 cases, so be sure to get to the brewery early. Call 381-9868.
Thin Man Brewery (492 Elmwood Ave.) has tapped the return of its Very Friendly IPA (India Pale Ale), a New England-style IPA featuring the popular Galaxy hop. The brewery also will be tapping two new beers: a wood-aged dark fruit sour ale (aged on plums and sour cherries) and a very tropical “Florida Weisse” (a beer conditioned on loads of mango and passionfruit). Call 923-4100.
Wegmans has teamed up with Sly Fox Brewing Company (from Pottstown, Pa.) to produce the latest in its Circle of Progress series.
