City of Tonawanda Mayor Rick Davis said it was a printing error that unintentionally directed his supporters to mail campaign contributions for a fundraiser to City Hall, rather than his personal address or campaign headquarters.
"That was an error in printing the return envelopes," said Davis.
He said letters were sent out a few days ago informing everyone who was sent an invitation of the clerical error and where to send checks. He said on Wednesday letters went out canceling the fundraiser altogether.
However, he said the cancellation was due to a scheduling conflict, not the error in printing. He said he will have a fundraiser at a future date, but no date has been set.
Davis said he did not use any city employees or resources to mail his fundraiser invitations.
"That would be abuse of city funds to mail a fundraiser out of here from City Hall," said Davis.
