GORDON, Eion Thomson

GORDON - Eion Thomson Age 89, of Wesley Chapel, FL, passed away Friday, March 31, 2017. He was born in Boston, MA on April 20, 1927. Eion lived in Petersham, MA from 1928 to 1944. Eion then moved to Wareham, where he graduated from Wareham High School in 1945. In June 1945, he enlisted in the Navy and served until December 12, 1947. Eion went to Chauncy Hall Prep from 1948 to 1949. From September of 1949, until his graduation in June 1953, Eion went to Tufts College, where he studied to be a Civil Engineer. Eion then joined Bethlehem Steel and was sent to the plant in Lackawanna, NY after completing their Loop Course in August of 1953. Here, he worked numerous supervisory positions. When the plant closed, he was Coordination Supervisor for materials and transportation, as well as Steel Business Operations. He retired to Fort Meyers, FL in 1998 after 39 years of work. In 2014, he moved to Wesley Chapel, FL where he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Eion is preceded in death by his parents, Alexander and Laura Gordon; brother, Alistair of Marblehead, MA; sister-in-law, Elsie. He is survived by his wife, of 67.5 years, Florence M. (nee Gehling); two sons, Robert T. Gordon and his wife, Linda, of Hamburg, NY and Scott D. Gordon of Land O'Lakes, FL; brother, Colin C. and his wife, Claire, of Wareham, MA; four grandchildren, Richard T. Gordon of Buffalo, NY, Kathryn A. Gordon of Buffalo, NY, Melissa L. Gordon of Wesley Chapel, FL, Christy L. (Travis) Cope; and great-granddaughter, Hannah L. Cope of Weeki Wachee, FL; daughter-in-law, Jennifer Gordon of Wesley Chapel, FL. Burial will take place in Wareham, MA at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are made to St. Jude Children's Hospital or to a charity of your choice.
