STATLER, Earl Edward

STATLER - Earl Edward Age 90, of Southern Pines, died on Wednesday, March 29, 2017, surrounded by his family, at Penick Village in Southern Pines. A funeral service was held Tuesday, April 4, 2017 at The Chapel of the Transfiguration, Penick Village, with the Rev. Dr. Sarah M. Rieth officiating. Private interment at Pinelawn Memorial Park. Mr. Statler was born May 12, 1926 in Brooklyn, NY to the late Herbert Earl Statler and Teresa (Clancy) Statler. He served in the US Navy aboard the USS Frost during WWII. After his military service Mr. Statler graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Forestry from the University of Maine at Orono. Following his graduation, he worked as a Forester in Oregon and Washington State before returning east to join Atlantic Lumber Company in Buffalo, NY as a lumber salesman and buyer. There he met his wife of 56 years, Mary Rena nee Bailey. Mr. Statler was transferred to the company's headquarters in Boston, MA and was promoted to vice president before leaving to join Baillie Lumber Company, Hamburg, NY in 1969. Over the next twenty-one years he participated in the growth and expansion of the company along with his colleagues until his retirement in 1990 as the company's Vice President. Mr. Statler enjoyed fly fishing, and playing golf which influenced him to retire in Whispering Pines where he was a member of the Country Club of Whispering Pines. He was passionately supportive and devoted to his family.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Rena Statler in 2013; also preceding him in death was a brother, James Statler. He is survived by two sons, James Statler (Michael Safranek) of Chicago, IL, and Jeffrey Statler (Tamara) of Marshall, VA; one daughter, Deborah Waida (Edward) of Washington, NC; three grandchildren, Paige Wines (Scott) of Marshall, VA, Molly Statler of Washington, DC and Austin Evans of Washington, NC; one great-grandchild, Sophia Wines of Marshall, VA.
