An early morning, two-alarm fire on Gibson Street in the Broadway-Fillmore area left four adults and 13 children homeless, according to the Buffalo Fire Department.
A dispatcher said the cause of the fire at 378 Gibson, which was reported at 4:32 a.m., was still under investigation.
At 4:36 a.m., a second alarm was sounded for the fire, calling more units to the scene. Fire crews were there until 6:37 a.m.
The fire in the 2 1/2-story, wood frame building did an estimated $60,000 damage to the structure and $20,000 damage to the contents. The house is located at the end of Beck Street on Gibson, behind Piotr Stadnitski Gardens retirement home.
A vacant house next door also suffered an estimated $45,000 in damage to the structure and $15,000 to the contents, fire officials said.
The Red Cross was caring for the displaced occupants, the dispatcher said.
