The athletic director position at St. Joe's is no longer vacant.
The school announced that Brian Anken has been selected as the replacement for Pete Schneider, who departed last week to assume the role of Executive Director of the Monsignor Martin High School Athletic Association.
Anken, a Cheektowaga native and Medaille College graduate, is currently the assistant athletic director and men's lacrosse coach at Division II Davis & Elkins College in West Virginia – positions he has held for two years. He has been a collegiate lacrosse coach the past 13 years, earning conference coach of the year honors twice (once at Mars Hill University in North Carolina and once at Lycoming College in Pennsylvania). The 15-year collegiate lacrosse coaching veteran begins his role at St. Joe's on May 1.
“I’m humbled and honored to become part of this great tradition,” Anken said. “Enhancing the student-athlete experience, holding each other accountable, and consistently competing at a high level without compromising our values will continue to be a major priority.”
Anken has 15 years management experience in sports that have helped shape his administrative skills, according to the release from St. Joe's.
Anken is just the third person during the past 50 years to hold the AD job at St. Joe's – the other being Greater Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame member Joe Wolf.
During his collegiate coaching career, Anken also has guided programs at Virginia Military Institute, Lycoming and Mars Hill.
