Two brothers who run a construction business out of Holland were cited last week for burning illegally, the state Department of Environmental Conservation reported.
The agency reported that Environmental Conservation Officer Mark Mazurkiewicz discovered a pile of burning construction debris in a large fire pit in Holland last week after someone contacted the DEC to complain.
The homeowner and his brother were in the process of demolishing part of the home and remodeling it.
Debris from that work was being burned on site in the pit, which was enclosed by large cinder blocks, according to the DEC.
DEC officials said the two brothers told Mazurkiewicz they "were not aware that it was unlawful to burn material from the demolition."
They are expected to appear at a future date in Holland Town Court after being ticketed for prohibited burning in an open fire.
The DEC didn't reveal the names of the brothers, their business or the exact location where the illegal burning was occurring.
