TOWN OF NIAGARA – Last weekend marked the first takeoff of a KC-135 tanker plane from the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station since the aircraft were reassigned to the 914th Airlift Wing of the Air Force Reserve.
Sgt. Kevin L. Nichols, public affairs officer for the 914th, announced Tuesday that the initial sortie used a KC-135 just flown to Niagara Falls from March Air Reserve Station in California.
It was the second tanker plane to arrive at the base since the announcement that the 914th would be giving up its C-130 cargo planes and switching to the tankers. The local Air Force Reserve unit is to be renamed the 914th Air Refueling Wing. The first tanker arrived from a base in North Carolina Feb. 1.
