PEEPS milk is a sweet treat

Spring makes us giddy, especially in the grocery store. Friend Jen reported the appearance of PEEPS milks at the Hamburg Tops, “in the corner cooler where they put the seasonal stuff.”

And there is was with the butter lambs. Of course we had to investigate.

“Prairie Farms first made PEEPS milk in 2015,” said Nicole Postin, public relations manager for Prairie Farms.

The three original flavors were Easter Egg Nog, Chocolate Marshmallow and Marshmallow. At that time, PEEPS milk was only available in the Midwest. (Prairie Farms is headquartered in Carlinville, Ill.)

Demand was so high that when the company brought PEEPS milk back in 2016, it expanded the selections and increased distribution.

“Requests came in from coast to coast, so in February 2016 PEEPS milk became available throughout the U.S. for the first time,” Postin said.

“Sales exceeded our expectations. For 2016, Strawberry Crème replaced Marshmallow and Chocolate Marshmallow was reformulated using whole milk versus lowfat,” said Postin. "Once again, it was very successful. This year we added the Orange Crème."

Oh, what an invention PEEPS milk is. The website cracks us up, with its PEEPS milk moments like video of Jimmy Kimmel trying PEEPS in 2015 and the RECIPEEPS like the darling PEEPS chick in a Nest cupcakes. (There's also a 35 cents off coupon.)

We agonized about what flavor to get from the four sweet choices. Chocolate Marshmallow, because plain chocolate milk is not enough? Easter Egg Nog, which we suspect is a lot like the Christmas version? It came down to the two crèmes — orange or strawberry. The new orange won out.

A quart was $2.99. Let’s just say it was like drinking a melted Creamsicle, which is what we hoped for. The half glass we had was enough.

Two ways we’re going to use the rest of it: to make shakes (maybe even spiked shakes with rum) and to make the cake listed on the side of the box. (Oh, look at what goes into it!)

Dentists around the area may shudder at the thought of PEEPS milk, but it’s a special holiday treat. What’s a little PEEPS milk on top of real PEEPS and jelly beans?

If you cannot get enough PEEPS, visit the official site, where you can order a variety of different types of PEEPS food items, get PEEPS recipes and buy PEEPS gift items including a PEEPS Yankee candle. The limited edition Ultimate Easter 2017 will run you $36.99, and includes PEEPS blue button earbuds with yellow chick design, a PEEPS yellow chick 16-ounce tumbler and of course, the marshmallow treats.
