Bankruptcy filings in the Buffalo and Rochester areas increased 4.7 percent in March from a year ago, according to the U.S. Bankruptcy Court's Western District.
The number of cases increased to 423 from 404 a year ago. It was the first year-over-year increase since October.
Filings in Buffalo accounted for the March increase; the number filed in Rochester declined.
For the first three months of the year, the number of cases increased 0.2 percent, to 1,009.
