Homeroom Announcements: Saturday's big games & more

We know there's no homeroom today. But we're up and ready to go.

Get yourself ready for today's #PrepTalkLive action with everything you need to know about the day ahead in high school sports.

What to watch for Saturday

1. Baseball - St. Francis at Fredonia, 11 a.m. (POSTPONED)

Fredonia returns an abundance of talent from last season's Class B state runner-up. All nine starters are back, including All-CCAA West I performers Reid Tarnowski, Ryan Mroczka, Lucas Voss and Vince Gullo. They'll be among the favorites to repeat in Class B this season.

St. Francis, the Monsignor Martin runner-up, return its fair share of talent as well. All-Catholic first team members Cole O’Connor and Brent Carmello are back, as are second teamers Luke Farinacci and Ty Syta.

2. Boys lacrosse - V-Webster Thomas at Clarence, 1 p.m.

Considering Section V's dominance over Western New York on the boys lacrosse scene, it's always notable when the regional rivals meet before sectionals. Clarence (1-1) will see how they stack up against Webster Thomas (2-0) on a day with multiple Section VI vs. Section V contests.

Additional games:
- East Aurora vs. V-Greece Odyssey/Athena, 11 a.m. at Genesee CC
- V-Spencerport at Williamsville North, noon
- St. Francis at V-Penn Yan, noon

3. Girls lacrosse - Hamburg at V-Rush-Henrietta, noon

Hamburg (1-1) heads to Rochester to face Rush-Henrietta (1-1) in a nonleaguer for the fourth consecutive year. Hamburg won in 2014, but Rush-Henrietta has won the past two seasons.

The Bulldogs opened the season with a 17-3 win against Eden but lost Wednesday to West Seneca East, 11-8. The Comets lost their season opener, 11-6, to West Genesee and beat Our Lady of Mercy, 9-8, on Thursday.

4. Softball - Lake Shore at Chautauqua Lake, noon (POSTPONED)

Chautauqua Lake (1-0) opened the season with a 14-6 win at Brocton on Wednesday. Fourth-year sophomore Olivia Anderson is the top returner for the Thunderbirds. She All-CCAA West I on last year's 13-8 team that lost, 1-0, to Barker in Class C semifinals.

It's the season opener for Lake Shore, which went 11-9 last season and return two All-ECIC II members in senior pitcher Alexa Haberer and senior catcher Jordan Scholl.
