Get yourself ready for today's #PrepTalkLive action with everything you need to know about the day ahead in high school sports.

What to watch for Thursday

1. Girls lacrosse - Frontier at Amherst, 7 p.m.

Last year's Class A runner-up Frontier takes on last year's Class C runner-up Amherst in an intriguing nonleague season opener. Both sides lost All-Western New York first team selections but have strong programs that contend for sectional titles on a yearly basis.

The Falcons went 12-5 last year and return All-ECIC I first teamer Taylor Gehen. The Tigers went 14-5 last year and return All-WNY second teamer Camryn Sullivan.

2. Boys lacrosse - Lancaster at Orchard Park, 5 p.m.

Orchard Park (2-0) hosts Lancaster (1-0) in the first Class A contest of the season. The Quakers have won the last five sectional titles and swept the Legends in three matchups last year.

Orchard Park is led by senior defender Josh Dahl, a US Lacrosse All-American and All-WNY first teamer whose already committed to play at D-I power Albany. Lancaster returns All-Section VI goalie Ben Mazur and All-Class A long-stick midfielder/defender Bryce Benham.

3. Boys lacrosse - Akron at Canisius, 5 p.m.

Reigning Class C champ Akron heads to Monsignor Martin runner-up Canisius in a public-private showdown. Junior Owen Hill was All-WNY last season and is the top returning member for the Tigers. Seniors Joe Cooley and Clayton Karam were both All-Catholic last season.

4. Baseball - Dunkirk at Frewsburg, 4:30 p.m.

All-CCAA East II first teamer Jacob Peterson and second teamer Reid Bjork return to lead Frewsburg, the reigning Class C champ. Dunkirk returns a quartet of all-leaguers as it looks to improve on last season's 8-12 record. Tyreek Buchanan-Ruiz and DeVaun Farnham-DeJesus were first team All-CCAA West I, while Evon Hernandez and Elwin Gomez were on the second team.

5. Softball - Westfield at Maple Grove, 4:30 p.m.

All-CCAA West I first teamer Mary Nickerson is the top returning member from Maple Grove's 12-8 team last season. Westfield lost four All-CCAA West II selections from last year's 10-9 team. Senior Lindsay Songer and Jani Barney and junior Kiara Booker are part of the returning leadership.
