Swimmer of Year honors for Buffalo State's Mergler

Buffalo State junior Connor Mergler (Williamsville North) was named Swimmer of the Year in the State University of New York Athletic Conference. Mergler won the 50, 100 and 200 freestyle events in the conference meet and swam on the 400 and 200 freestyle relays which finished third and fourth respectively.

Mergler was named Male Outstanding Swimmer of the Meet and then swam in the NCAA Division III championships. He earned All-America status for his eighth-place finish in the 100 at the national meet, the second time he earned that distinction. He also attained top 20 finishes in the 50 and 200 freestyle relays.

Aaron Carlson of Fredonia State won his first SUNYAC Diver of the Year award. He was unbeaten in 1-meter and 3-meter competitions (24-0), including victories in the SUNYAC Meet.

In the Division III nationals, Carlson was third off the 3-meter board and fourth in the 1-meter, giving him five All-America awards for his career. A senior, Carlson is from Le Roy.
